I Need Some Help!

I've been praying about what my ministry will look like in Vegas. How will I best be used by God here? Every time I pray about it "broken women" keeps coming up. It makes sense because there are so many women here who are broken, and also because this is what my background and ministry experience is in. I'm praying about getting my Master's Degree at UNLV in the area of counseling, social work, etc.

Here's where I need your help!Edit

1. Can you recommend any ministries that deal with broken women that have volunteer opportunities in Las Vegas?

2. If you have a Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, etc., can you tell me what degree you have and what sort of job options are open to people with that degree?

3. Would you please pray for me and for direction and clarity?

Thanks!!!!

I work as an Academic Advisor @ Nova Southeastern U.. We have a site in Vegas, but it's only for the school of education..

Anyways, look at the more clinical and professional degrees like Clinical Psychology or something similar..

There are several paths to get where you want to go. If you go with Clinical Psychology, it'll take longer and be more intense, but you'll make significantly more money doing it.

You can become a Mental Health Counselor with less time and cost, but you won't make much more than $40k per year.

Hey Jenn,
I've actually spent a ton of time looking into the eact same question. So, by all means, if you have any q's and wanna call, feel free. However, here is what I've found in my search.

As Brandon mentions, there's a couple of really great ways to slay this beast. I've looked into Regent University (I've been promised that my favorite "Christian" tv personality has had all ties cut from this school), and they seem to have the best overall online program for this study. They have a couple of routes in getting there.

One is the MA in CLinical Mental Health. THis degree could be used to seek state licensure after school completion and even take you into the private practice counseling world. However, if you just do it to have the knowledge in your back pocket, there are some great classes to learn from. Here is the link: http://www.regent.edu/acad/schcou/academics/coun/ma_mhc/ma_mhc_comm_req_courses.htm

The other route you could do is much quicker, however, one cannot seek licensure from the state for professional counseling practice afterwards. This degree is best used as a "peer counselor" when working within a corporation or as pastoral counseling or something. Like a colateral duty on the side. Not as much knowledge/training, but still some good stuff. But it's also quick, quick like a bunny. Here's that link (by te way, the course is called Human Services Counseling): http://www.regent.edu/acad/schcou/academics/coun/ma_hsc/ma_hsc_courses.htm

I hope this all helps some. But again, if you need anyhting else in this area, please feel free to call Juli or me. You guys are so great and your continued passion to follow God inspires all of us and leads many more into great things for God. Thank you so much.

Okay...for some reason the comments section cut off my links. So, here is the link to the primary page you would need. I'm sure you can navigate your way from there.

I just found your blog for church planting wives and this is pretty neat :) I'll confess I am not a blogger (yet) I'm working on it, but My husband planted a church in tampa 2 yrs ago, its been a pretty crazy ride but we are now running about 400. Ok back to your question...I started volunteering at the crisis pregnancy center here in Tampa 2 yrs ago, now I work part time with them but it has been so incredible.(if your not familiar with a CPC we offer free pregnancy tests & 3D sonos to girls, also help with girls that are wanting abortions we are able to talk to them first and we offer free counseling for girls that have had abortions,we do parenting support and we are an adoption agency) Our center is actually located right next to 1 of the largest abortion centers in tampa, since moving next to them a yr ago we have actually built a good relationship with them even though they know we believe in 2 different things we are still able to be kind to them. Since building this relationship they have now been sending us their clients that are on the fence with their decision, or that need someone to talk too. I could go on and on with the stories that happened since I have worked there but the greatest thing for me has been being able to be a light in such a dark place, and just by loving on these girls and showing them hope getting to watch God transform them. I know Las Vegas is a pretty crazy place and actually 1 of our volunteers worked at a CPC there and has told me how awesome it was to minister to the women there. I'm not sure what part you are moving too, but if your interested you could just google crisis pregnancy centers and it will give you the locations. Good Luck!!
