A perfect stranger just drove away in my minivan...Vince has a new book coming out in February called, "Guerrilla Lovers." The premise of the book is that as Christians we need to love people in a way that surprises them. Guerrilla warfare is a type of warfare where you "sneak attack" your enemy (think Vietnam War). In the same way we need to "attack" people with God's love. It's an awesome book that's challenging and inspiring.
So when was the last time you loved someone in such a way that shocked them; that made them question your sanity? A love with no strings attached and no creepy motives...
I came home from the gym this morning and found an old man in the street by my house. We said hello and I headed up my driveway. He stopped me in my tracks and said, "Do you have any jumper cables?" I thought I did so I started to look in my trunk. Once I found them I brought them over to him where I saw a younger girl working on her car. She asked if I could jump start her car. After several tries it wouldn't work. Her battery was deader than dead.
She was totally frazzled and upset. She had to bring her Uncle (the old man) to the bus station and her car was dead. Without even thinking I said, "Why don't you take my car?" She said, "What? I don't even know you!" (She just moved into the neighborhood with her cousin this past weekend) I said, "I don't care, you need to take him to the bus station and you need to buy a new battery, so take my car!" She finally agreed, jumped in and drove off. As I walked away she said, "The world needs more people like you in it."
What could you do this week to show someone God's love in a really practical way? Could you make cookies for your neighbor? Could you buy your garbage man a gift card to Home Depot? Could you shower your kids' teacher with presents for no reason?
People will think you are crazy. They will wonder what in the world you've been smoking! Even Vince questioned my sanity when I told him about my car. But it's worth it anyway! So here's your assignment. Do something Guerrilla Lover-ish this week and tell us about it in the comment section on this post.

haha i totally would think you stole it and were trying to pawn it off on me. lol well i think u did a pretty cool thing. Maybe you have redeemed urself for some people after the whole stripper school post. LOL

Five years ago I gave away my car, literally, as I had bought a new one and I knew God wanted me to do something with the old one, but He would have to show me.
I called everyone I knew who might want a car, and offered it to them. They all turned me down.
Then, while working at a summer camp, one of the workers was telling me her story and she mentioned she had never had her own car (she had no idea we wanted to get rid of one) and had always used her parent's cars. You can figure out the rest of the story. Five years later, she still has the car and I see it around town occasionally.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! That's real Jesus kind of love!
Oh, so that is what it looks like to be a Christian.

Awesome post! My husband and I just moved to the Birmingham Al. area where we are planting a church. The week we moved in we baked homemade cookies and took them to everyone on our street as a way to introduce ourselves and get to know everyone. The reactions were priceless. Some people looked at us like we were crazy and others were saying how nice it was to receive the gift and hello.It was so much fun. Everyone should try it!
amazing. its in our hearts to do these things sometimes but then our practicality & head get in the way. i'm exited to hear how God uses this one interaction to change that girl's perception of God and Christians.
Now sister, THAT's radical!!..and now there's people praising God because of your love...what a great example! I hope my life shows that kind of love...unhinged, ready to give at a moment's notice and if not, that God will work on me so I can be like that....Thanks for sharing, you're awesome!!!!
